Take Back Mississippi
10/10/2008
Southern Democrats are a rare breed in the U.S. Senate these days. But that's all set to change this November.
Tremendous Democratic candidates in Virginia and North Carolina are running strong and poised for big victories. And Democrat Ronnie Musgrove is giving his Republican opponent a run for his money in the most unlikely of Southern states: Mississippi.
It's been nearly two decades since a Democrat served the state of Mississippi in the United States Senate, but former Governor Musgrove has a real shot at it next month. A recent poll shows him surging over the past few weeks, now trailing his Republican opponent by just two percentage points -- well within the margin of error.
Now let's help push Ronnie Musgrove over the top.

Mississippi's Senate seat opened up after Trent Lott left the Senate in 2007, and since then Republican leaders in the state have pulled out all the stops to prevent a Democrat from taking the reins.
Mississippi's Republican Governor hand-picked an extreme-right wing Congressman, Roger Wicker, to fill the vacancy for the past year. Over that time, Senator Wicker has been busy making connections in Washington and amassing a campaign war chest to try to defeat Ronnie Musgrove and stay in the Senate for at least another four years.
Last month, fearing Ronnie's surging poll numbers, Mississippi's Republican Governor and other leaders tried to illegally bury the race at the bottom of the ballot to make it harder to vote for him. Thankfully, the state's Supreme Court stopped that plan.
Now Ronnie Musgrove is running a great new TV ad to share his moving personal story with thousands of Mississippi voters. But he needs our help to keep this ad on the air and win this uphill battle as a Democrat running for Senate in one of the reddest of red states.

2008 could be the year Democrats really start making new inroads in the South, and Ronnie Musgrove's race for Senate is central to that effort, offering the change that Mississippians want and deserve.
With Barack Obama at the top of the ticket, experts expect record Democratic turnout in the Deep South, and that's good news for all of our "down-ballot" races.
So please send a contribution Ronnie's way today, and help him turn his virtual tie in the polls today into a lead that carries him to victory next month.
Thank you for continuing to support Green Mountain PAC, and all of our tremendous Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate.
Sincerely,
 Patrick Leahy U.S. Senator
P.S. There are only 25 days until Election Day, and Ronnie Musgrove needs our help, now, to help him win in November. Please contribute to Ronnie's campaign today!
