My Speech in Denver

09/03/2008

Last week, I proudly stood with thousands of Democrats from Vermont and across the country at the Democratic National Convention in Denver where we nominated Barack Obama for President of the United States.

It was an historic week, including wonderful speeches from Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton, and President Bill Clinton, and culminating with Barack Obama's thrilling acceptance address before more than 80,000 people at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Last Tuesday, I was given the honor of speaking at the Convention.  In my speech, I talked about rural America -- how after eight years of the Bush-Cheney Administration's failed policies and misplaced priorities, we need new leadership to put our nation, and especially rural communities, back on track.  That's just one of many reasons I'm supporting Barack Obama for President.

If you didn't get a chance to watch my speech last week, I hope you'll click here to watch it online.

Over the coming days and weeks, I'll be doing all I can to ensure that we elect Barack Obama as America's 44th President -- and beyond that, that we send even bigger Democratic majorities to the House and Senate.  As part of that effort, I'll be writing to you more frequently to let you know how you can support the Democratic candidates who need your help the most.

This is an exciting time to be an American and an exciting time to be a Democrat. Working together over the next nine weeks, we can elect Barack Obama as our nation's next President and, over the next eight years, deliver the change that America so desperately needs.

Sincerely,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
