Leahy: Shift in Domestic Spying Is 'Good First Step'

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was subjected to intense questioning about the Bush administration's domestic wiretapping program as he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The intense questioning came one day after the Bush administration announced that the program is now being subjected to the judicial system. Leahy called the change a "good first step" — but he questioned whether the shift qualifies as "meaningful oversight."

Thursday, Gonzales reiterated his denials that the November election had anything to do with the sudden policy change.
